In Refúgio, Covilhã, a house designed as the first refuge for those starting a new chapter - students and early-career professionals. Nine furnished rooms with air conditioning and WiFi, weekly cleaning of common areas included.
More than a room, a starting point. This house, in the neighbourhood of Refúgio, was designed from the ground up as a welcoming place for those beginning a new academic, professional or personal chapter - often away from home for the first time.
We call it the first refuge: a place that is, at once, protection, stability, autonomy and a starting point. That is why each of the nine rooms is named after a place in the Serra da Estrela mountains, in a climb that begins at Nascente (the spring) and ends at Estrela (the star):
At its heart, Refúgio dos Nove aims to be a residence with an identity of its own: a safe, organised and inspiring place for nine people to begin a new phase of their lives.
Nine beginnings. One starting point.
A four-storey house with nine rooms of different sizes, let individually: two in the basement, two on the ground floor - where the entrance, kitchen and shared living room are -, three on the first floor, one of them the suite, and two on the second floor. All rooms have air conditioning and WiFi. Each room has its own terms - find the one that suits you.
Every room includes a bed (double in the larger ones), desk, chair, wardrobe, mirror and coat rack. Just bring your things.
Each floor has a bathroom shared by only two rooms. On the first floor there is also a suite with a private bathroom.
The house WiFi network reaches every room, boosted by repeaters on every floor. Included, no contracts in your name.
Every room has air conditioning, for comfort in summer and through the mountain winter.
Common areas are cleaned weekly by the house management. You only look after your room.
Each room has a new lock and its own key. The shared entrance and circulation areas are protected by motion-detection CCTV, duly signposted.

An outdoor terrace of around 20 m² above the garage, for shared use - one more spot for sun and good company.

The house is in Refúgio, Covilhã - a university city at the foot of the Serra da Estrela, with everything close by: the train station, urban transport, shops, services and the University of Beira Interior (UBI). The neighbourhood itself has a garden, a chapel and a quiet residential feel.

Each room has its own size, features and terms. Water and electricity costs are split between occupied rooms: a €30 advance towards the month’s utilities is paid with the monthly fee, and the balance against actual consumption is settled in the following month’s billing, by the 15th.

Basis and terms: accommodation provided as a service, under 12-month agreements. On moving in, the first monthly fee and a deposit equal to one month are due. Either party may end the agreement with 60 days’ notice. Monthly prices shown include VAT at the legal rate.
Utilities (water and electricity): a €30 advance towards the month’s utilities is paid with the monthly fee. The house’s total costs are divided equally between the rooms occupied at the time, and the balance against the advance is billed to each resident the following month, by the 15th.

Agreements run for 12 months, as accommodation service agreements. On moving in, the first monthly fee and a one-month deposit are due; the deposit is returned at the end of the agreement after the room is checked. Either party may end the agreement with 60 days’ notice.
There is indoor parking with a single entrance, which can be allocated to one resident for an additional fee (not included in the monthly price), subject to availability. Ask us whether it is currently available.

The kitchen is fully equipped (oven, microwave, hob, fridge and dishwasher) and includes shared crockery and utensils: plates, glasses, mugs, cutlery, knives, pots and pans. Each resident also has their own storage compartments in the pantry, kitchen cabinets and fridge, to keep belongings separate and organised.
The laundry has a washer-dryer available to all residents, and there is a clothesline in the back patio.
The house has a WiFi network, boosted by repeaters so the signal reaches every room and floor. It is included in the monthly fee, with no contracts in your name.
All rooms are furnished and have air conditioning and WiFi. They differ in size and some details, so each has its own terms, shown on its card.
Each floor has a bathroom shared by only two rooms. The first-floor suite has its own private bathroom.
